Hi,

I'm looking at numerous post masters ACNP certificate program in various online and hybrid formats. I'm hopeful to find one that works the best for someone who lives on the west coast.

My question revolves around the 3 P's: Advanced Physical Assessment, Advanced Pathophysiology, and Advanced Pharmacology.

When you graduated from your MSN program in which you took each of the 3 P's separately, were you required to retake any of those classes upon acceptance to a post masters ACNP certificate program?

I did an MSN in management and leadership, no 3ps.

then I adult CNS, adult 3Ps

then I did peds CNS but by that time they had combined the adult and peds 3Ps so did them again to get the peds

what are you certified as now, FNP?

Hi traumasRUs,

Thank you for your response.

My MSN is in Clinical Nurse Leadership. (I have not graduated yet, however, if things keep progressing like they are, I will graduate.)

My university wanted their graduates to be able to articulate into a DNP or Advance Practice RN (APRN) program without difficulty. Also, since the CNL is a clinical based degree, it is recommended that these programs include advanced assessment, advanced pharmacology & advanced physiology.

I AM interested in APRN as ACNP, however, I could be swayed towards FNP at this point if I hear more compelling evidence that would fit for my interests. (ICU RN, CCRN)

I evaluated the UCSF program and was informed that I would need 12 months of schooling for an ACNP certificate. However, that program only had a 15% acceptance rate during their last round (they accepted 2 out of 13 applicants). In light of that information, I really need to have plan B, C and D. Therefore, I am casting my net wider in the hopes that I can find similar programs that show more promise.

In the process of looking at different schools for ACNP (as well as FNP) for post MSN graduates, they really don't spell out whether their certificate programs require a repeat of the 3 P's if you've already taken them recently.

I thought I would see if my fellow nurses could help me out on Allnurses.

Perhaps I should have posted this in the area for graduates instead of students?
