Apparently, this just happened. I look at it on the CCNE website as well. Any thoughts? I feel like this should have been the standard all along.

Really nice. If enforced, it will probably cause school closures. Which is a good thing!

Try copy and paste. It's actually on the CCNE website as the new accreditation standard for 2019 that schools are responsible for providing adequate clinical sites. Sadly, I believe a lot of schools like chamberlain and walden as well as other online for profits will be forced to shut down as they offer little to no assistance in finding clinical sites.

Why do you believe that is "sad"? I think it would be a big step up for nursing to eliminate the proprietary, questionable-quality "schools."

I believe that all schools with a clinical component should have the obligation to provide preceptors for their students. That's part of the package that students pay all that money for.

Who here thinks it will actually be enforced?

It's sad for the students who have had to drop out of school due to lack of clinical sites. I hope some of these programs are forced to shut down. It's an absolute ripoff that schools do not provide clinical sites. I've gotten into it a few times on this site due to people disagreeing with me. I don't see how anyone could defend a school not providing clinical rotations for its students. I recently inquired about an ACNP program that didn't find clinical sites. Basically was told that I have to cold call providers and hospitals.....Openly admitted that students have had to drop out due to not having clinical sites. People need to start filing formal complaints if schools do not comply.

Hope it is enforced, as I think (hope?) it will improve the quality of NP education if schools are expected to invest in the clinical component of educating NP students (kind of surprising this hasn't been required already), as well as limit the size of incoming cohorts to realistic numbers based on numbers of local preceptors. (And if schools don't like limiting their cohort sizes maybe there will be better incentives for preceptors to take on students?)

I hope it is enforced. The for profits may adapt and do their job. I am skeptical though as back years ago we all heard nurse practitioners would need doctorate degrees by 2015.

I know 3 male NP students who had to drop out as they couldn't beg their way into a woman's health clinical site. I know others that had to drop not being able to get into peds rotation as well. It's a shame what np clinical placement has become. Cold call, beg, or pay and hope.
