AANP or ANCC

I am getting ready to start my final semester of NP school and I am trying to decide which exam to take. Any advice? I will graduate December 2011, and I feel like time is flying!

I took the AANP because I heard it was more clinical based and less theory. I don't know if this is really true, but that, along with the lower cost made my decision for me.

Like many have said, Fitzgerald review is the way to go, in my opinion. I listened to her CDs and workbook and read one of her review books front to back and passed. That's pretty much the only reviewing I did.

Good luck. ( I am an FNP, by the way--- don't know which program you are in.)

Specializes in family practice, addiction medicine.

Good luck with everything. I also graduate in December with my FNP. If you join the AANP as a student NP, you get a discount on the AANP examination. Thought this might help you out. Their website has all the information.

Specializes in FNP-C.

I'm scheduled to take the AANP soon this month. Maybe later I'll do ANCC..

Specializes in family practice, addiction medicine.

Be sure and let me know how everything goes. Best of luck!

Hello. I took both exams on the same day and passed both of them. The AANP is more clinical, whereas the ANCC has a lot of theory and legal/professional issues. However, the ANCC is WAY more efficient with processing your scores. I ordered my certification verification from the ANCC the day after I took the test and got my advanced practice license 3 weeks later. However, my scores from the AANP still say "Results Pending" on the website when I took the exam 3 1/2 weeks ago!

I took AANP on the 19th and my cert number was on the website the next day. My packet I received in the mail with my letter and certificate was post-dated the 21st. Maybe I just got lucky?

Probably! I keep calling them and they say it takes 2 or 3 weeks!

Specializes in ICU.

I was told to take the one that is recognized nationwide. Sorry I don't know which that is, I'm only I'm my first semester.

I took the AANP on Saturday and had my license by that Thursday evening.......... soooooo its pretty quick, I took it June 18th...............

I have taken the ANCC twice. I am not a good test taker and I have major anxiety! I always think too much and twist the answers. If you take the ANCC be sure you know theory. Know those definitions like beneficence, nonmalefience know them forward and backwards. Both times I had tons of question with these definitions. If you have to take ANCC I recommend buying their review manual from their website. It was $100 but it has 50 questions in the back that are very helpful and each chapter ends with case studies and the answers are all in the book....with full explaination. I also bought the APEA practice question book and it is great each questions had rationale. Their website has a question bank you can purchase for like $150 and you have unlimited access for one month... You can split the with 2 other people and still have a tough time getting to all the questions. I will be taking the AANP this week in hopes that the test is all clinical bc that is my strong point. If you know anything about that exam please let me know. thanks... and take the Barkley or APEA review....skip fitzgerald! but just my opinion and what I have heard from others...Also several girls in my class took both and they passed. Good Luck!!
