Student Lies on Me !

this is the second time a student has lied on me, but this one takes the cake ! student came twice this week complaining of a rash. no drainage, just a rash.

the first time i send a note home as an fyi. yesterday, he comes in and still complaining so i leave a message for mom, once again as an fyi. i told her that if the condition worsen f/u with a physician.

well today mom comes in ****** off ! she goes to the principal and teacher and claims that i did a medical exclusion. she says her son says" miss x told me i can't come to school due to the rash". this was not true ! my boss was even here yesterday and examined him and told me to leave a message for mom as a fyi.

the student apparently lied because he got in trouble yesterday and the teacher called home and left a message. when mom asked why did the teacher call home he states" because the " nurse" said that i can't come to school tomorrow due to the rash."

so mom kept him home and then came to the school to question about it, and ofcourse all the fingers pointed to me at first. because they know this student and know my character no further investigation was needed. in plus i document every thing, so i'm covered. it still hurts that a student would lie on me just to stay home and keep out of trouble. :angryfire

i catch students and parents in lies all of the time. i hate when it's directed towards me.

usually is a case when the delinquency of a student is involved and the case is going before a judge. i just state the facts and tell the truth. you will never go wrong if you tell the truth.

hope things improve for you. :loveya:

That is SUCH a crummy thing for a kid to do, but I am amazed that the mother automatically assumed this child was being truthful without question. I think that often that sort of thing is indicative of other problems within this family. It sounds like you and your supervisor documented everything, but it does still hurt, I know.

I think that's happened to all of us.

When I was still brand new I had a student lie and tell their mother that he had come to my office and I had put ice on his arm (he had claimed that a staff member assaulted him). I had not seen this child on the day in question and the only time I saw him at all was for a stomachache some weeks earlier. The mom believed the child and assused me of lying. I had the documentation, the principal and my health services backing me up and nothing came of it. I don't know if the kid ever came clean or not. It was really fishy that the mom kept saying the child had a bruise, but when I asked to see it so I can assess it, she refused, saying the bruise was there the day before but now it was gone (???) Yeahhhh, lady. I think it was pretty clear that the kid and mom were not being straight, so the powers that be let it go.

It was upsetting to me, though, and it just reinforced to me that I need to have meticulous records. I log every kid that walks through my door, unless they are just stopping to say hi.
