Strip searches?

Are you involved in the strip searches of inmates in the observation cells?

Sometimes - and I was also involved in cell extractions, when they shot tear gas into individual cells in the segregation unit because of unruly behavior and inmates who would not cooperate with efforts to relocate them.

According to Ohio DRC's policy- we are not permitted to do opposite sex strip searches.

Medical is never involved in body cavity searches. We will draw blood with the patients permission for court ordered blood draws, but only with patient's consent.

Specializes in forensic psych, corrections.

No. There is no reason for medical to be involved in strip searches. That is a custody issue. We're not involved in cell extractions either but we do treat inmates (and, to some extent, assist officers) for chemical exposure.

NEVER! Not for searches, not for extractions...just the aftermath!

Thanks to all. I'm glad I wouldn't be involved in strip searches.

The correctional officers do the unclothed searches.

Deyo321, Is an unclothed search different from a strip search or is unclothed a better term than strip? Or is there a clothed search? If there is , does the nurse have any involvement with it? Thanks

They are the same. There was a court ruling that the very term had implications and since then we never use the term. Clothed search is what you could call a pat down.
