Ugh.. Well yesterday I was on a high the whole day after I found out I passed boards, and today when I got home my license was in the mail.. WOOHOO
But today at work was the first day out of my 3wks of Orientation on the floor that I felt VERY stressed and overwhelmed... Almost to the point of if I would have stopped I could have easily cried...
UP until today I have been with my preceptor all day.. She gets her 7pts or so, and I chart of about 5 of them, but she was with me for assessments, signing off orders, talking to drs etc... But today I was given 4 of my OWN!!! My preceptor called in sick so I was with another nurse and she gave me 4 of her patients to do everything for on my own. UGH... and of course all of my patients would need something big.... And I work on an Orthopedic floor, so most of the patients are unable to get up and do much for themselves... I handled it fine, the other nurse said I was doing great.. But inside I kept feeling like I was forgetting something or doing something wrong... But I survived...
I think its time for a nice hot bubble bath in my whirlpool tub... :)

You go right ahead ! You deserve it.
It's soooooooo natural to feel the way you do... it's a HORRIBLE feeling. But we've all felt that way, and it takes quite some time to feel like you're even WORTHY of being called a nurse, and that you're not just some major pain in the butt to your colleagues and a danger to your patients.
That's when all the fantasies about nursing come to a screeching halt and the reality hits. And it's SCARY.
But more than not, we are our own worst critic... I'm sure you did just great... take your nice hot bubblebath, and tell ducky all about it.
Tomorrow's another day, and with each passing day, you'll gain just a wee bit more confidence. You'll be just fine. Focus on all the things that went RIGHT, and all the things that COULD HAVE BUT DID NOT go wrong. :kiss
Thanks Jnette... I know I will have several more experiances like this one.. But it wore me out today.. :) My bubblebath was very nice.. Still have a headache, but I am fixing to curl up on the couch and watch CSI and then ER before I go to bed... Then I have one more day tomorrow then I'm off for the weekend :)

Hey there nurs, (I edited your nurs2b )
It sounds like you're doing just what the doctor ordered. Literally!
I'm no help here hun, I haven't begun my orientation but I just wanted to come in here and give you a big hug and hand you a hot cup of tea to go help your headache....Yummm, ginseng.
