Strange nature of tests

Published

Isn't it strange how tests sometimes work? I'm just curious . . .

Anyone else notice, sometimes after we take a test, we feel down in the dumps, sure we've failed it. Then, sometimes, we get the results back and it's much higher than we thought. Likewise, we think we've passed it with flying colors, but then fail it, or at least didn't do as well as we thought.

Is it just me, or does anyone else experience this?

Eh. I never really experienced this. I pretty much knew when I did good or when I did bad.

This has very much been me this quarter. One exam I completely thought I'd failed for sure. Felt really depressed and anxious - got my score back and I'd earned a B+. Aother exam, I walked out feeling like I'd done okay, not amazing, but like I'd done very solid work on the exam. I got a C which brought me very emotionally low for a few hours. Fortunately I had several major assignments due in another class so I had to just keep working which distracted me until I could get into the review the exam with my instructor.

It's messing with my head a bit because usually I'm someone who knows how well or poorly I did on the exam. That initial feeling of walking out and "yeh, well I probably got a B+ on that" is generally spot on, but nursing school exams have definitely messed with that ability.
