Hello and welcome to the site.

I moved your thread to Nursing First Job Hunt Assistance where hopefully you will receive some helpful replies. You might want to read through other threads in this forum to see how others are dealing with similar situations. Also, try looking in the Hawaii state forum.

It may not be the most desirable position but maybe try working as a CNA at a local hospital just to get your foot in the door. For my current position there were over 400 applicants and the only reason I got an interview was because I worked as a CNA at the facility. Might be worth a shot to put in 6 months somewhere.

I agree with the previous post. Also, what about Home Health, LTC, phsyician's offices, Hospice providers?? Anything that is "Healthcare" related is worth a shot! :-)

Can you apply for a CNA position after you have passed the boards?

i agree with all previous poster. however, don't despair there's a job position out there with your name on it, seriously it took me 9mo. to get a job once i passed the nclex mind you i was already a seasoned rn,bsn in my native country of madrid, spain. having said that, make sure that you keep placing applications to all islands. in addition, it would be beneficial to you to keep all certificates like cpr, acls, up to date. moreover, don't discard the idea of shadowing a nurse, besides that, having a specialization like would help as well. however, i will be honest with the present economy there's a lack of nursing positions in all hawaii, even for experience rn's. with that said, don't lose the faith and don't limit yourself only to hospitals, apply to every medical venue possible. wishing you the very best in all future endeavors...aloha~

p.s. make sure you check with queen medical center, below you'll find a link pertaining this medical center.

Thanks for all the advices. Is anybody from the Big Island?

Hi. Have you tried looking for jobs in nursing homes? I know that's probably not the desired route but I know someone on Maui that was unable to get a RN job in a hospital setting so she got hired on at a nursing home to get some experience under her belt. I was raised on Maui and would love to move back but the job prospects seem to be non-existent there at the moment. Best of luck!

hi true blue....yes i tried but even nursing homes wants one year hospital experience.Trying all my options with the other islands but still no luck....just have to keep on trying until something comes up....You too best of luck

hi. I'm from the big island and I'm in the same boat, however I just applied to a new grad program. what part of the island are you from?
