Stethoscope and where you wear it.

Here does everyone wear their Stethoscope? I wear mine around my neck. I heard that this isn't necessarily good for the stethoscope? Is there any truth to that? We are not allowed to use the belt clips for stethoscopes (DoD hospital, and the current CC see' sit as a safety issue I guess). I don't particularly like carrying it in our pockets as we only have pockets on our tops and that makes it heavy and bulky and awkward. So the only place I see as an option is around my neck, which happens to be the most comfortable for me anyways...however, I don't want to ruin my stethoscope as it is a Littmann, and you pay a decent penny for that!

I wear it in my pocket because we had EMT instructors who would pretend to strangle us to get the point across that a psych patient or drug patient could flip out and strangle us with it if it is there.

We are allowed to buy cargo scrubs.

It may be an infection control issue where it gets on your skin if you forget to clean it off.

I put it in my pocket whether it's the top or bottom.

I put mine in my side pocket on my pants. I hate the feeling of it weighing on the back of my neck and I just don't like the way it looks

I left it on cart or nurses station...I do EMS also..hate wearing it ..

I wear mine around my neck and yes, it does warp the tubing after a while. But tubing can be replaced separately.

I found keeping it in my pockets to be annoying and too bulky, so I was usually leaving it at the desk. Problem when I needed it unexpectedly.

If I needed to carry it around for a while I'd kind of coil it up and put it in a pocket. I worse scrubs that had pockets. If I was using it and needed my hands free, without having the time to coil it back up, I would throw it over my shoulder. I never would carry it around my neck. I think that's disgusting really along with a safety issue. Cooties get on the tube then you have it touching the back of your neck skin, plus some person could easily strangle you with it. Mostly I'd leave it in the drawer of my desk at the nursing station. These days I don't even use one anymore, lol. I love that about my job.

I always wear mine around my neck. My preceptor has one of those hip pocket clip holders for it, I keep thinking I should buy one.

I wear it around my neck. I have a cable organizer tubing wrapped around the steth tubing to protect it. I don't like it in my cargo pocket only because I have my trauma shears and reference book/notepad in it. Working in an ER, I've been around several psych or combative pt's and none have tried to even reach for it.
