So I'm getting a new computer and i was wondering (for those RN students among other) if it is really necessary to have a notebook computer over a desktop computer. I know i'm going to probably get a MAC, but i want to know if, as a RN student, you really need the mobility or not? Thanks in advance.

I just bought a Compaq at Bestbuy for 328. Loaded MS Office and a wireless mouse and I'm good to go. I can do my schoolwork anywhere now. I have a desktop but barley use it. Go with a Laptop, no need to get a high-end one unless you plan on gaming.
Good luck.

I went through this same dilemma! I actually wanted a desk top just because I was sick of dealing with battery issues in a laptop, but I knew I still had a lot of time left in school and I would want to be able to bring a computer with me sometimes. (it's also nice to be able to sit in bed and study on the comp :-X)
I ended up getting a macbook pro and I would suggest it to anyone. Amazing ~7 hr battery life and it runs like a dream. I've never had a mac, but I am so happy with it and I haven't had any problems. It hurt my pockets, but I was able to get it financed + a free printer!

This is very true. Even brand new the battery only last 2hours on mine. Although it is advertised as lasting 3.5.

Go with a laptop! I'm a Mac laptop girl. My husband and I each have our own, and I take mine everywhere with me. My battery life is excellent even after 3 years, and I've never had a single problem with my Macs. I love being able to pop open my computer and get homework done anywhere!
I love to study on campus and at coffeeshops, so it's great to be able to pack up all my books and computer and go anywhere to find a good study environment.
I'm sure I get a lot more done this way as opposed to being limited to just my apartment.

Buy a ---- good --- battery life laptop. Mine last a measly 3 hours, it drives me insane in class because there's not a plug in site. As said before, desktops (good ones) are for gaming

That is the exact computer i've been looking at. I know they are about 1199, minus 100 for student discount, plus taxes, i would imagine about 1200+ out the door. What better reason to put myself in debt then for school, and a awesome notebook..
thanks everyone...
Yup, it was around $1200 and the financing is great if you want to take that route. I only have to pay around $10 a month (although I usually pay ~&50) & no interest. You won't regret it!
Isn't it no payments for the first 6 months? Then after that the interest goes up? I guess it might depend on your credit huh..
I honestly don't remember because I got it last September :-X, but maybe it was no interest for 6 months? Sorry, I'm not sure haha. but I've been making payments because I want to pay it off. My bill came out to $1,400-ish because I got a printer (free after rebate deal) and the apple care insurance. It's through Barclay Visa credit card and I was approved for $2,200. I paid $400 cash and put the rest on the card.
Nice.. Well i might have to wait a few more week here but, i definitely plan on getting one. Do you have any type of word program on there? Anything that is comparable to microsoft office?
