I would like to do the LPN to RN online through a program like Excelsior (or any others if they exist?) I live in VIRGINIA and heard that I can't sit for immediate liscensure in Virginia if I graduate from this program. Does anyone know what states do recognize an Excelsior degree and would let me sit immediately for my boards? I heard that in order for Virginia to let me practice as an RN I would have to work over 900 hours in another state. Does anyone know my best option to get my RN through distance learning if I live in Virginia? I guess I could always be a travel nurse for a few months until I get my 900+ hours. Does anyone know if NORTH CAROLINA WEST VIRGINIA or TENNESSEE recognize an Exclesior degree? I would hate to go through all the time and money getting my RN through Excelsior and not get to practice as an RN. And I can't really do classroom due to my schedule. I am really counting on an online program!!!

Im in West Virginia and just called the Nursing board last week to verify Excelsior. The woman at the board was VERY VERY helpful. Long story short YES WV accepts Excelsior!!! She told me to just MAKE SURE its the the right school (Albany NY) im guessing there are "schools" out there trying to play off to be Excelsior that are really not schools... im not sure what that was about but she repeated many many times to make sure it was the correct school. Hope this helps some!
Thanks! Yes, that helps. I guess I can do Excelsior even though I'm in Virginia and then travel to West Virginia or North Carolina to work my 960 hours (about 6 months) and then hopefully be elgible to sit for my boards in Virginia. But I will call them to make sure it would work that way...

You won't have to sit for boards twice. You can endorse in to Virginia after you have the 960 hours.

NC is a EC friendly state with no restrictions. I hope they keep it that way!
