hey everyone..
so..i was fortunate enough to be offered a position in a SF hospital to start training on the feb 12 program (next one is in may). i graduate in december (21st) from an NYC nursing school (yey!).
now...here's my dilemma...
securing an IP, or being able to sit for the NCLEX. I was planning to take NCLEX the week before i left ...bc i could take a kaplan review course for a week (and then take the exam the next monday)...so it's all fresh.
HOWEVER...i come to find out that my lovely school doesn't send out our transcripts until the official graduation day...that being JANUARY 22.
so then i have to get my transcipts over to calif board of nursing..they have to process it...review it...and then issue me an IP or ok me to take the exam.
OMG!!!!
what are the chances that will all be able to happen before feb 12????
would it speed things up if i physically bring the transcripts to sacramento and gave them to the board (could they eval right there for me???) bc i hav eto move there anyways...and was planning to do so on the 23rd (i figure i could take the NCLEX on the 22nd..but apparently not anymore...).
ANYONE else do this before and it worked out?
thanks for any suggestions in advance;o)

Getting permission to sit for the exam, or the IP, both need the same thing. A completed set of transcripts for them to evaluate (BRN). They both require that you have had your credentials verified and approved, the IP means that you have met all requirements except for taking the NCLEX. It is not a shorter time to get that than it is to get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam, both are the same time.
They are unable to accept the trancripts from you, they need to be an official copy that comes directly from your school, and they will still need to evaluate the trancripts, it will not be done overnight. They do not do anything instantly, and you can figure on a month or so after they receive the trancsripts. If you had graduated from a CA school, then you coudl have taken the exam sooner, but out of state? No way, until your file is complete and reviewed.
You are going to be pushing it to have the IP by the date that you need it for............I have never seen them evaluate a file in just two weeks, and have the IP in your hand when you did not go to school in CA. for the CA students, they will permit them to test as soon as they finish class, before the trancripts are sent out if the student's name is on the list of students expected to graduate. But if you also notice, CA does not participate in quick results either, because of this. Not all files are complete by the time that the student takes the exam, therefore results are not released until then.
You may find it easier and faster to test in NY and then endorse to CA. That may be your only way..........You can endorse the same day provdied that CA has received verification from NY, but to do what you want to do, is not going to work.

I just graduated from my nursing school in Chicago in June this year. The followings were what I did to apply for the NCLEX-RN in CA:
- sent the application to CA BON on June 5
- sent transcript requests to all of my previous schools where I took my
prere. courses on June 5
- officially graduated from school on June 10(sat) and my nursing school sent my nursing degree transcript to CA BON on June 12(Mon)
- went to CA on June 12 to stay with my relatives till now
- did the fingerprint thing on June 13, and sent the form to the CA BON on
June 14. I was told by the agent which did the fingerprint for me that it
would take one to two weeks for the BON to get the result of the
fingerprint.
- called the CA BON on June 13 and was told they just officially got my
"application form"
- called the CA BON again on June 27 and was told my eligibility to take
the exam was issued on June 26( didn't receive any notice yet)
- registered with Pearson on June 28 and got the ATT via e-mail from
Pearson the same day( it's ok to register with them coz they could find out your eligibility with BON themselves)
- The IP/ interm permit arrived two weeks later.
- Took the NCLEX on Aug 9 in the bay area
- Found out I passed on aug 11.
BTW, u can check on the BON website if ur IP has been issued. I found my name on the board website for IP the same date that I calle dthe BON, whicg was June 28.

I hope the above info can give u an idea of the time frame, it might varies for u though. Also I heard there are less students graduating in Dec than in June, so it might be faster to get things done. But again, i'm not sure if u can get everything done by Feb12.
Good luck!

I am taking the NCLEX in march. How long after will I get my results to send to cali, cause of course ,like everyone else I plan on moving there before summer. Is this a difficult process to be an out of state RN coming from NY?

I sent my paperwork back in August and I am still waiting. They tell me it's the FBI check holding it up, and that it has taken up to six months at times, for that to clear. Other people have said they got theirs in as little as 6 weeks, but that the usual is 8 weeks - so maybe it's the luck of the draw. I will be coming up on my 3 month anniversary soon. If you can't wait then definitely get the temporary license.

you do not transfer a license, there is no such thing. you must apply for endorsement of your license.

Is it true that the NCLEX-RN of California is harder to pass compare to the NCLEX-RN of other states like of New Mexico or Vermont? Does the quality of questions given in the NCLEX-RN of California and New York different from other states?
