starting a new job in june, just found out I'm pregnant..help!

Well, I was so excited about a new job offer I accepted, I am due to start in June, but I just found out I am 6 weeks pregnant. Now I don;t know what to do. Am I obligated to tell the new job that I'm pregnant? Will co-workers resent me for starting a new internship and being pregnant? I am so stressed over this I am miserable, the timing is just not right.
Any advice or honest thoughts appreciated.

First of all Congratulations Is this your first pregnancy?

I was in the exact predicament June, 2 years ago, I had accepted a new position. Found out about the pregnancy 2 weeks after accepting the position. I struggled with the same issues, I did let my new supervisor know, didn't seem to be a problem or issue. Anyhow, for me, I decided to stay in my present position, was established, familiar, new jobs bring stress. I miscarried shortly thereafter, and have been unable to conceive since. :crying2:

I wish you luck, didn't mean to turn the subject around to me.... but life has a way of teaching us everyday. Do what is best for you, everything else works itself out.

Let us know what you decide. I don't feel you have any obligations to let the new job/supervisor know, you may feel better sharing the news upfront. I don't believe you'd be resented, I know I would not resent a co-worker for the situation. Hope things work out.

Thank you for your response, I am sorry for your loss. Yes, this is my first pregnancy, I have been very worried about the stress of starting a new job while being pregnant, but I am not happy at all at my current job which is why I was so excited for the new job offer. I am also an inexperienced nurse, I graduated in Dec. so this is stressing me out even more.

Technically, they can't ask you if you are pregnant or if you are planning on becoming pregnant. Drink lots of water, get good sleep, and enjoy the experience! Don't tell people until much later when you are starting to show and they actually ask.

Take the job. You're 6 weeks pg, not 8 months. I second the advice to drink lots of water and get your rest. Get good pre-natal care. Get a CNM, I had one throughout my pg, labor, and c-sec. :uhoh3:

Take the job or you'll be lacking experience when baby is born and you will be really far behind when you go back to work. The timing may not be perfect, but you'll get through.

I found that the timing was never right for me to be pregnant, so I just took them as they came. I ended up dropping out of school because of one pregnancy, BUT you are in an entirely different situation. As long as you take care of yourself and don't do any super-heavy lifting at work, you should be fine. Also, as others have said, unless you are having to lift alot, etc. I wouldn't tell your employer until at least the three month mark.

Congrats - new employer can't ask and I wouldn't volunteer. Its not like its going to affect your employment immediately anyway and besides. Good luck!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. The only way that I would tell them is if you are required to be lifting/turning patients etc. Enjoy your new job and enjoy the new baby.

Thank you so much for all of the positive comments. I have been feeling very nauseated and called in sick the past 2 days of work. Will this feeling go away? This is another reason I am scared of starting a new job, I feel awful!

Make sure you eat some crackers while still lying in bed. And make sure you eat small frequent meals with healthy snacks in between. An empty stomach is your worst enemy. Think down, down, down, not up, up, up. Also, if it is debilitating, there are medications available. Speak with your OB. The nausea should ge away by the end of the first trimester. However, if you have nausea throughout your pg, get tested for H.Pylori bacteria. It has been linked with extended n/v during pg. Hope you feel better soon.
