Start 1st LPN job Monday and nervous

I just graduated LPN school in Dec and took and passed my boards in Jan and now I start my 1st job as an LPN nurse on Monday and I am scared and nervous. When I was in clinicals I had my instructor by my side so I was never scared or nervous when I did procedures or when she would grill me about my patient and the medications I was giving....now I am on my own with no instructor, more than 2 patients, and doing it all by myself and it is freaking me out because I do not want to make any errors because I am dealing with people's lives.

Someone please help me overcome this fear!!!:innerconf When I was in school I said I would only be a doctors office nurse and I would NEVER be a bedside nurse in a hospital because of the tremendous responsibilty that bedside nursing offers, but as fate has it that you should never say never, I am going to be a bedside nurse

I need advice and for someone to shake some reality into me please!!!

You will be fine. Won't you shadow someone for a couple days? And they know you are a new nurse so they will be willing to answer your questions...right? I think you will do fine, just relax and when it doubt ask your supervisor. Easier said than done- I know. But soon you'll be a pro!! We all have to start somewhere. I can't wait to be in your shoes!!!!!!!

Don't worry in most hospitals they give you a thorough orientation, I was like you when I started scared to death because in clinicals I had 2 patients and now I have 5-6, I was also terrified of making mistakes. In reality you're going to make mistakes, that's how true learning takes place. It takes time but you'll be fine, I've been at it for 8 months and there are still times I ask a million questions, but I'm not as green as I was 8 months ago. You'll do great!

Honey - I was you....25 yrs ago ! They will not feed a new grad to the wolves. They will help you till you feel comfortable- if you aren't you have to speak up! Nurses are the best people I know!

Thanks MsTeresa97 for posting. I did great in school but am nervous about doing well on the job, too!

I was prompted to post because I laughed at what you said about wanting a doctor's office job and now going to the hospital. I sooo want to be in the hospital setting (OR) but will be going into a doctor's office setting so I can have more family time (I'm a divorced mom of two).
