I got accepted into nursing school (Chamberlain College of Nursing) into their accelerated BSN program. I like that you can take pre-reqs there through Devry. Anyways, before this I went to school for Criminal Justice (what a role change) but did not finish my degree and only a few classes transferred to Chamberlain.
So I basically have to start from the beginning. During my orientation it seems like EVERYONE has many classes that transferred over and/or have had jobs in healthcare which I don't have either. I am 25 years old and have worked at car dealerships since I was 16. I finally figured out what I want to do with my life and I feel like people are looking down on me and think that I'm crazy. Everyone looked at me like I was nuts at orientation when we did the "getting to know you" exercise.
Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation? I feel very discouraged and am very nervous about starting school.

Don't feel that way!!!! A background doesn't make a nurse. The NCLEX is gonna decide who's an RN, not what you've done before this. Also - your background will give you traits and knowledge you may not know you'll use! Especially when it comes to patient interaction. It's so easy for me to talk to new patients because of my retail/customer service background, some people find it hard to do so.
Trust me - no ones got an "edge" here. You get the edge by studying hard, and everyone will have to regardless of background. Be yourself:) rock it out!

Everyone is a new student, just like you. Even if they have experience, they are still learning things the way your particular school wants them to do be completed, which may mean unlearning the way they already know how to do it.
As above, you will have a head start when it comes to just walking into a patient's room and introducing yourself. This can be a major struggle for some people.

Don't feel that way. Everybody who is in the room has been in your place starting from square one. Most of the people havent start classes so they know the same info as you. Just keep positive and brace through.
