Start at CRO or Psych Floor at research hospital?

Posted

Hi All,

I'm 48, got my licence Aug. 2018, still looking for my first RN job. I want to be a research nurse. I have a phone interview with a stand-alone clinical research organization as a clinical safety nurse and I have chance to get a psych nurse job at a pediatric hospital that's in the top 10 in the U.S. and does tons of research. Should I start at a CRO or start at the bottom as a psych nurse? My age has prevented me from getting some jobs, and it seems psych, nursing homes and the like seem to be my only other options at this point. Plus, I really need a paycheck right now. Any suggestions/constructive criticism would be great.

Hi gumbi_12! Have you had any luck becoming a research nurse? If so, how do you like it and do you have any tips for getting your foot in the door? It seems like so many positions ask for research experience from the get-go.
