Congratulations, that is fabulous!
I've never heard of this program, can you tell us more about it? I love St. Vincent's Hospital & would love to work there.
Their graduate nurse residency program is a really great opportunity for new nurses, how it works is this:
An 8 week program is designed to kind of orient you to the new hospital.
Your first week is spent in hospital orientation.
Your second week is in a Kaplan review course where they pay for the coure, your test, your license, AND give you an hourly wage for attending!
Your third through eighth weeks are AMAZING. You get to pick six different areas in the hospital that you would like to work. You spend one week in each area, and 36 hours a week working. On Monday and Tuesday you work 7a to 7p, then you have Wednesday off, then work 7p to 7a on Thursday, then have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off!
After your six weeks are up, you pick the your favorite three places and have an interview in each. Then you find out if you received your first, second, or third choice!
I was so happy when I heard about this program. I knew I wanted to work in Indy and I knew I wanted to be in a large hospital, but I was a little bit nervous of moving to a new area and starting at a new hospital. I am sure this will help me become comfortable with some of the inner-workings of the hospital and also help me meet a lot of people!
I definitely encourage anyone to apply =)
WOW!! This sounds awesome. I would love to work at ST. Vincent! I happen to love the place. My daughter was there for 2 months, so it has a soft place in my heart.
What areas are you thinking about?
Good Luck to you and let us know where you end up.

I have an interview for the Graduate Nurse Residency at St Vincent this Friday. I have been offered 2 other jobs already (both in critical care) and am wondering what units St. Vincents lets you rotate through for this program. I heard it excludes peds, L&D, and NICU. Have you heard this also? Also when does this program start?
