1st semester nursing student study habits?

Published

I'm halfway through my 1st semester of being in the nursing program! I am curious about other students' study habits. I feel like I don't spend as much time doing classwork as some of the other students in my classes, but my grades are currently good. Is this going to come back to bite me or am I just not far enough in to realize I am going to have to kiss my social life goodbye?

If you are passing thats giid, If you feel you have all the knowledge you need to function in clinical thats good. No matter your study habits now, I would say be prepared to adjust. Our secind semester in Med Surge over a 10 week summer course. I already know its going to be brutal so I'm going to have to increase study time. I do not believe in overstudying though, meaning you forsake all life outside of nursing just o study. Continue to have a life, you just may have to skip a few weekends here and there.

Sounds like you're doing fine to me. I'm in the first semester of my nursing program, and I don't need to study that much, either. I am nervous about Med/Surg next semester, though. I am planning on doing a lot more studying. However, I do believe that overstudying is detrimental. It certainly doesn't help with retaining information. A good balance is key.
