Well i started school Jan 9th @ MVCTC/VA LPN school, and tomorrow begins Week 4 out of 10 weeks for the first quarter...A&P is great, Drug Therapy/dosage calculations no problem, nutrition is a breeze, our nursing lab/procedures i'm doing great! BUT nursing fundamentals is KILLING me!! the past two quizzes i've gotten in the low 80's and then the mid 70's on them...i just can't figure out why i can't pass these darn tests!!!

And to top it all off, these quizzes really don't count towards our final grade or anything, the ONLY way to pass the quarter and move on to 2nd quarter is if you pass each of your final exams with an 80 or better. now they DO give us two chances, so if i don't pass it the first time then i will have second chance (at a harder test than the first)

sorry to vent, i just wonder if this stuff will come to me when we start clinicals in 2 weeks or if i'm just not going to make it!!!

Relax.... you'll make it!

I too am a 1st quarter LPN student; but I was a military medic and EMT-I in the old days....

Clinicals will help you "cement" the didactic (classroom) knowledge in your brain. The first few weeks are the toughest. Keep your chin up and your eyes and ears open. You'll be fine! :D

I started the same date as you. Hey you are passing!!!!! That is what counts. I often read the same thing over and over and over again. I think that repetition has its merits. It takes longer to grasp some areas than others. Keep looking up.

Hang in there. Nursing theory tests are killer! You get better at taking them as time goes on.

hang in there tasha! I'm in my 6th month of LVN school and the first couple of months were pretty tough. We lost a lot of students and had killer Med/Surg tests that we thought we wouldn't make it through. Once you get on the floor, everything will start making sense! Good luck!

Hey Tasha!! My name is Melissa, and I also started when you did in Louisiana!! I took my first Nursing Fundmentals Test last week. I got the grade back today and saw that I made a 76%. I'm so upset with myself right now, but have to tell you WE CAN DO THIS!! It's gonna take alot of hard work and dedication, but if you really want something you're willing to work that hard for it!! If you ever need someone to talk to just write me!! I'm sure we'll be going through the same type of things! HANG IN THERE!!!

Good Luck,

Melissa

thanks so much! it's been crazy here, but midterms are next week so i'll have to see where i stand after that!

clinicals start the week after next so maybe that will help some too....holding on strong!

tasha

tasha, are u at school in killeen?? I just graduated from there, i know fundamentals is hard, it was for all of us, 90% of the time the answer on the test is an off the wall one, if you are going in killeen, let me know maybe i can find some of my old notes or soemthing,

Elizabeth

hello,

lvn student.i just grad. in aug. and nclexed in dec. i recieved my results in jan. and got my lic. this week. it was hell in school, esp. since i had a teacher who was contrindicaating herself and her assist. english was hard to understand. Our grading system was different, quizes counte as half the grad. all-be-it you still had to pass the test with a 70 percent or if not better. Fundamantals can be hard but if u can read a manual for putting the vcr together right u can do it...just follow instruction with a bit of critical thinking.....all nurses have to be flexible and adaptive and that goes for application as well. The application is practice and having confidecn in doing it. Hit the lab and apply what you have read and when u can be ready to volunteer for practice. You'll do great-a former lvn student

Hang in there! I think oftentimes the first semester is a "weeding out" process, so just tolerate the B.S. I remember my first couple of weeks of nursing school and we would have quizzes that asked things such as "who's the president of the college?" and "who won the national square-dancing competition?" At the time, I almost quit because it was irrational and stupid (I get angry thinking about it). However, it too passed and the weeding was done and now I, and many others in my class, have been RNs for over ten years. Just dig in your heels, study, and do your best :nurse:
