Hello,
Does anyone work or worked in the Ped's ICU or Ped's CVICU at St. Joes? How is the management. How do the nurses treat each other? Are there many epxerienced nurses working there to help teach and learn, or is it mainly new grads on the unit and the hope the kids are safe? Any input would be great. Thanks

I am a HUC at St Joe's Pediatric Cardiothoracic area. The nurses get treated awesome! If that is your type of specialty -- you would love it there!

Is it hard to get a job there as a new grad, Ive passed my classes and currently on my preceptorship and finish school in less then 2 wks. And would love to work there since I have worked tele as a pct for 2 yrs, and as a monitor tech for 1 yr. But all the jobs there I apply for I just get shot down right away, and the same thing happens at any hospital that I apply at for any peds positions. I really would love to work on a ped. cardio unit, since I already know so much about cardiac and really like ICU.

Do you know if they have externs in the PICU or the NICU? I am finishing my 2nd semester and really want to do an extern there in hopes to work there as a new grad. I have 8 years experience as a CNA and 4 of those years in the CICU/MICU, and I know there is no where else but the ICU that I want to work. Plus my passion is getting to work with kids..

They hire new grads in just about any unit there. As for Peds CVICU, I can't say for sure .... it's a brand new unit. But it'd be worth checking out, call the recruiter and get some details, they can let you know which units are hiring for new grads.
I know they used to have nurse externs in the NICU, I'm sure they still do.
