I'm a new grad, both positions are in the same hospital. One is .8 evening shift on Oncology, the other is a full 80 hours every two weeks 7pm to 7 am on Pediatrics. Which one do you think would be the best opportunity? Just for reference, I am thinking about going into a DNP program in a few years, most likely concentrating on cardiovascular disorders.

Just my thoughts...If you want a DNP with a focus in cardio in the future, it sounds like job #2 is the better choice. It will help when you interview/apply for the DNP to have full-time experience. Also, the oncology is on nights...you will get experience, but not as much as a full-time day shift job. Either way, they both sound like good jobs.

I totally agree with Funnywoman. It really depends on you but if it were me #2 sounds good. Working in pediatrics definitely makes you more "marketable" later

I assume that if you are looking at an NP in cardio, you plan to work with adults. Therefore, I would probably take the oncology position. Just because it isn't full time right now does not mean that you won't be able to pick up shifts or get hired in full time. You are more likely to gain experience with cardio patients in oncology than you will in pediatrics.

Either position will get you a great deal of varied experience.
