I'm a new grad RN about 8 months into my new career. I'm learning a lot, and the unit I am on is providing me a valuable experience. However, it isn't the place I see myself staying long-term.
In anticipation of someday moving into another area of nursing, to make myself more marketable by showing that I am interested in furthering educating myself and developing my career, I was going to get certified in the specialty area I am currently in.
However, I am in a area of the country where there are many spanish-speaking residents. Keeping that in mind, and seeing the emphasis there is on patient satisfaction scores, I started thinking that maybe taking a in-depth CE course in medical spanish might be more worthwile of my time.
Any thoughts anyone would like to share? It would be appreciated!

The school Im attending currently has just started offering a course in spanish for medical professionals. I plan on taking this course and brush up on the spanish I learned in HS (its been...a few years). Considering that Spanish and those of spanish speaking country origin are going to be the majority in this country in the not too distant future...Id say its almost a requirement to be considered competitive in the field of healthcare...
I say do it!

Definitely take Spanish--look into yearly total immersion Berlitz course in your area. Best way to learn is total immersion.
