special certifications?

I was reading the other thread about being floated to a different unit and people were talking about ACLS, TNCC, and PALS.

What do those stand for?

TNCC-Trauma Nursing Core Course

ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support

PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support

I work in a small facility and all nurses are encouraged to take these courses as we help out in all different areas-I have TNCC, ACLS, and the Neonatal Class (I cant remember what it is called) and I thought all classes were very helpful, although hard to remember so much info unless you use it regularly.

The neonatal class would be NRP: Neonatal Resuscitation Program

Are these classes taken during regular working hours (are nurses still paid while attending)? If not, do hospitals usually pay for the training? Thanks, Diane

Where I work, the classes are offered on weekends mostly and yes, paid as education time by my employer.

My hospital sets up the classes when they know we have enough new employees to take them. Ours are during the week and yes they are paid for.

Ours is NALS Neonatal Advanced Life Support

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

NALS is now NRP ---- (name changed) same content.

I guess we're old heads...lol..we still refer to it as NALS...old habits die hard..
