Sparrow nurses union votes to strike

Nearly 1,800 registered nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists and other professionals at Sparrow Health System could go on strike later this month if their union and hospital management fail to reach a contract agreement.

The workers, members of the Michigan Nurses Association, voted by mail last week to authorize a strike. When votes were tallied Monday, it was found that union members "voted overwhelmingly" to approve the measure. They've been working without a contract since Oct. 31.
