i too am taking prewrecks at tarrant county and live within miles from swau . i went to jps lvn school and during clinicals i remember seeing their students coming into clinicals at night. so im pretty sure they have a night clinical . i know the prewrecks are not that heavy but you know what is , the tuition. horrible, horrible, horrible . i too would like to know more about this program . i will apply at mclennan county in august i just cant afford the tuition at swau. good luck

has anyone gone to sau http://www.swau.edu/ ? i am seriously thinking of going there and wanted to talk to someone who had been. i am taking prerequisites at tarrant county right now and i want to get my bs in nursing. i was originally going to go to ut at arlington since it is the closest public university, but i am now leaning toward sau. sau is closer and from what i hear easier to get into, has smaller classes, and better nclex pass rates. they also hold their clinicals in hospitals closer to me than uta does. i don't have a very dependable vehicle and i have a small child in school that i don't want to be far away from. my main questions are do you like the school and do you have to take religious courses if you are a transfer student? i tried to get info from the school, but the web site doesn't say much and the info they sent me in the mail wasn't what i had asked for.

my next question is about lvn's and cna's. what do they do? are there laws in tx that states what their limitations are or do the hospitals decide that? i had a friend, a long time ago before i decided to become and rn, that was an lvn and i remember her complaining about the rns having her do things she wasn't suppose to do and even leaving her in charge of the whole floor sometimes. she was working in a rural public hospital at the time. plus i was wondering because when i was in the hospital myself i had so many different nurses that came in an out of my room doing different thing and i now wonder who was who.

So is MCC in Waco? Don't they have a UTA satellite school in Waco too?

If I go to SWAU, I will be graduating with more debt than if I went to UTA, but right now I think it is a better choice. SWAU tuition is about half the price of other private universities in the area, which is the only reason I am even considering going. I can't even afford to think about going to Texas Christian University, ouch. A friend of mine told me she is planning to go there and I could hardly keep from laughing. I don't think she has look at their tuition prices yet.

I have an old classmate from one of my pre-reqs that is going there now (she started last Fall) from what I was told when I called the school was that she beat the rush. The lady I spoke to was one of the Admissions counselors and said that this Spring they had so many applicants (and they were not use to having so many applicants) they thought it was only fair to make sure the students that took their pre-reqs there get accepted first and then they would fill the other spots....JUST A FYI:)

UTA is the same way about taking people that took their prerequisites there. I am studing for my ACT right now so I can get into UTA to finish my prerequisites there, and at least have a shot at getting in. I have a friend that is about done with her prerequisites for nursing and she said everyone she knew that applied to UTA was turned away. She said they are taking people with degrees and UTA students with 4.0. Once they are done accepting them they have very few spots left. I'm really nervous about getting in anywhere.

I have two very good friends who went to this school, and one of them is going back to get her nursing degree..I asked the same thing and my friend said that you do have to take religious classes.
I also thought about it as I'm in Midlothian, but I decided against it..

i have also had a couple of classmates who got accepted to uta all of them told me that they do not go off of gpa alone, they go off of your attitude. meaning when you make your appt and go to the office to turn in your transcript they make a copy of your driver's license/ i.d. and they usually give you a hard time about it, all the while they're documenting the whole encounter. one of my classmates said that in her class (that was admitted) there were people with 4.0's, 3.0's and 2.7's so she knew for a fact that they don't go just off of gpa.

also, now you have to take pharmacology, and two other nursing courses as pre-reqs so i guess they will see if you can pass those courses first, because uta nursing program requires you to have a b average on every exam. which means you can turn in all the homework and classwork you want if you make less than a b on the exams you're on probation. :uhoh3:
