southern california hospital/brotman

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into Southern California Hospital in Culver City, formerly Brotman Hospital. I don't live in the area but I have an interview for their new grad program next week. Everything I have read online has said some pretty horrible things about the facility and I'm trying to figure out if its worth it to trek down to southern California for the interview or if I should decline the invitation. I'm a new nurse and am concerned about starting my career in a negative environment... I had a couple clinical rotations in questionable facilities and know the kind of effect it can have on you.

Anywho, any input would be GREATLY appreciated!

I had a friend who worked at Brotman and she said it was horrible, but it's a job and you will learn things. If it's your only option, I'd take it, but it will probably be grossly understaffed.

Yes, I have to echo the same things you've heard. I had a friend who recently worked at Southern California Hospital at Culver City and he didn't last for more than a few days. He had a lot of negative things to say about his coworkers, about the facility, and about the management. I had an interview there myself and it just looked...hopelessly understaffed. That particular floor of the hospital looked like something you would see in a developing country. The problem with taking a job in a hospital like that is, particularly when you're a new nurse and still learning, you're risking your license and opening yourself up to lawsuits. I would recommend holding out for a better opportunity. This hospital went bankrupt a few years ago and it looks like it may be heading that way again.
