South University RN-BSN Online Program!

Hi Everyone,

I am interested in this school, and was contacted but not so many people have gone through this school. I would like to know any info before I make my final decision. They are very convincing, CCNE accredited, checked it out myself, and also SACS. But everything just happened so fast, I'm not sure if it is a place of high quality education, because this is an investment. I do not want to regret it later on. They have decided to take on most of my ADN credits plus you're given 45 credits for your previous nursing degree.

I would appreciate any information. I am interested. No group projects, lots of paper writing ( which I expect because it's an online class, and also Bachelor level work), classes are 5 1/2 weeks long. I plan on taking 2 courses at a time. Based on how I do, I'll take 3 courses to finish by a year and a couple of months. There is a 6 credit course that you do in the end which involves research in the community, you can do it in your homestate which is 11 weeks long, which I'll take last, I may do it at a volunteering center.

Classes are $280/credit. Here in NY some of the schools that I've been looking into to finish my Bachelor's are $700+/credit LIU and Adelphi. Also I may have to do them in 2 or 2 1/2 years, leaving me $ 40,000 in debt.

Is South University a reputable nursing school. They also have campus program BS in Florida. But I a a bit skeptical about the school because of the fast turnover of the application process, or is this expected because it's an online program.

Thanks,

I enrolled in South. I have loved the classes I have taken so far, but now a problem has developed. Originally they told me they would take my Regents (Excelsior) College exams for credit. Now they are telling me they won't take them! I am a bit upset. may start looking around for another college!

I have been looking into this school, or trying to, but can't find out much online. I usually like to find out things myself, instead of a saleman trying to get me to enroll. I can't find a list of classes that are required online, what general education classes and what nursing classes. Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

I am looking at enrolling in South Univ. program. I graduated from Excelsior with my asn; just wondering on what your status is in regards to South accepting your Excelsior credits.

Thanks!

did you take your A & P and Micro from Regents (Excelsior)? If so South WILL NOT accept those credits. I have been enrolled with SOuth and taken classes, now they tell me they won't accept my A & P and Micro because they don't take the challenge exams for them. Thry will only take them if they were taken "live" with a lab.

Shari

Yep, I did both through Excelsior. Is that the only courses they are denying you credit? Before you enrolled did they say they would give you credit for those? Aside from this, has your experience been good with them?

Thanks,

Teri

SO far those are the only ones they won't take. they are waiting for my clep scores to "assess" those. I am dissapointed because they led me to believe they would take those credits. they stated they had been accepted in the past, but now they won't take them.

Other that that, I have had no problems. I have loved the classes I have taken so far.

Did you clep those 2 courses or take the excelsior college exam? Your class list you posted looks long! How long did they tell you it should take you to complete your degree?

Thanks!

Thery were ACT proficiency exams. I took them as part of the Regents college requirements.I don't know what they call them now.

As for how long it takes, I guess that depends on what else they wont' accept. But the classes are only 5 1/2 weeks long. THey go by pretty fast.I really have enjoyed the classes I have taken so far.

another school that takes EC that is RN - BSN is TExas A&M corpus christi. you take the classes as fast or slow as you want. you don't have to wait until the end of semester to keep moving on, when you are done, you move on at your own pace. a girl i used to work with is an instructor down there a few times a month and she said it's a great program. when i lived down there it was a 3 year wait to get into nursing school and this is a great alternative and no wait list!

can you tell me what the classes are like? how many papers? any tests? about how many hours a week did you devote to the classes ( i want to do the 2 at a time)? did you find the classes easy or hard? any specific time that you had to be online for class, or can you do it anytime?

sorry for all the questions...

by the way, i just clarified with my admissions guy about the final class, which is the community one. he said there are no clinical or contact hours. a previous poster had mentioned that is was research in the community. so, which is is? am i going to be out in the community, like clinicals?
