I just finished up my 3rd semester a few days ago:) and I wanted to take advantage of the summer to prepare for the NCLEX (graduate from an RN program in Dec 07). The school has mentioned a few books to use and then I hear about others from friends. I am very confused! Some of the books that have been suggested are:
Nursing 101 How to Pass the NCLEX
Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX
HESI NCLEX RN Review
Kaplan Review
What do you all think? What has worked for you or for others that have passed? Also, I have heard that the NCLEX changed its format last month. Will any of these books be up to date with the changes?? Thank you so much!

the Kaplan worked for me. I did have other review books but they were just review of everything you have learned in nursing school. The test is not going to ask what is a dx or what would you do for a nursing diagnosis. It mainly test you on prioritizing situations. They can be tricky. The NCLEX RN exam obviously test you on the knowledge you have learned but their are tricks to the test. I found Kaplan to be the best at it. I passed the 1st try. It was almost the same as the test. Good luck

Kaplan for strategy, Saunders for drill. Especially helpful....the pharmo drills in the Saunders CD.

I would take a look at the books if you can from a book store and choose the ones that appeal to your mind and spirit. Kaplan did have great strategies, but, Saunders had TOO much information for me to digest...that is a personal opinion. Saunders was great for school, but I needed a less cumbersom summary of material. I used their CDs for the questions, though and did pass with minimum questions. Best wishes on the road to NCLEX!
