Hello All,

I made an error and need advice. I work OPS (similar to PRN) at a local psychiatric hospital. The error was a transcription error. I've owned up to the error and so far have talked to by the doctor as well as the DON.

When does it stop? The doctor jumped me immediately as soon as she found it. The DON jumped me the next time I worked about 2-3 weeks later.

This is the first time I've made an error and my question is really simple. How many more times will I get jumped about this error? My next shift by the RN? By the doc next time shes on duty?

Just depends on the error. You didn't really explain what happened.

It depends on whether the error resulted in patient harm or delay of care. Without more specifics, it really is hard to answer your question.

However, if the transcription error did not lead to any harm, injury, or delays in care, it would be best if the DON and doctor stop hounding you about it because their unbecoming behavior may discourage other nurses from reporting errors in the future. Good luck to you.

I just found a transcription error tonight. I pointed it out to the LPN I was orienting with and she didnt bat an eyelash. Said oh, well, we know what it is, and that was that. I doubt it will get corrected.

Nobody died, the error was caught by the oncoming LPN during med pass.

I transposed a cursive "L" for a "Z".
