We are being taught via videos on how to obtain a pulse and bp.
I get the basics but re pulse...when do I start counting?? Start at zero when second hand moves or one??
Also re BP, the systolic pulse seems to be heard sooo quickly that I'm not sure I'm catching it. We can't be over or under by anymore than two or we fail.
Everyone I seem to ask keeps telling me how easy this is but I keep second guessing and/or getting stuck! UGHHH!
Any advice on either would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

I just did these check offs and about had a nervous breakdown, so you are not alone in thinking this is not so easy.
On the pulse: Don't wait until the second hand moves. When you are starting (on that second) start with zero.
We had to do the 2 step blood pressure. If this is what you are doing, make sure that in the 1st step you are stopping the brachial pulse before you deflate. And add 30 mmHG to your start on the 2nd step. The systolic pressure should not come as fast that way. Also, make sure you are deflating at about 2 mmHg per second. I know it seems slow, but it does make a difference.
If you are doing the BP in one step, pumping up the cuff and deflating, You may not be pumping up far enough to start.
I hope that helps. You will do great.
Thanks!!! We too are learning the +30 for bp...but I wonder sometimes if I'm actually hearing what I think I am...UGH!
Thx for the support too....I sooo needed that : )
