Similar Repeating RN NCLEX Questions

I have taken the RN NCLEX 3 times and have yet to conquer it. I went to 265 the last time so I know I am getting close. I have begun to notice a pattern of similar repeating questions within the NCLEX that I didn’t initially pay too much attention to. The first time I took the exam I got at least 3 similar questions on the same subjectand on the 2nd and 3rd exams I got about 6 similar questions on one topic and a few on another topic. Long story, short version, on a hunch I thought maybe the test is giving me repeat similar questions to determine competency in a specific area. I took the LPN NCLEX for the first time within a couple of days of failing the RN NCLEX the 3rd time and decided I had nothing to lose by trying out my theory. Sure enough I got a repeating similar question and figured I must have answered it incorrectly the first time and now they are giving me a 2nd shot to make sure that I am incompetent before they shut me down. In most situations I am pretty good about narrowing the answers down to 2 and then seem to have a knack for picking the wrong answer. Since I had nothing to lose I answered the question differently the 2nd time and I never saw the question again. I ended up passing the LPN NCLEX after answering the minimum number of questions. Has anyone else had any similar experiences with similar repeating questions and what do folks think of my theory?

P.S. I found out that I passed the LPN NCLEX:yeah: this morning and then in the afternoon I went into work and was terminated  because I didn’t pass the RN NCLEX.

so if you grad from rn program you can test for the lpn lic and work as lpn? just cking my options should i not pass again.

I was able to work as a GPN (grauate practical nurse) which is a temporary license that is valid for 120 days. My former hospital does not hire LPN's , but they made an exception for me to work as a GPN until I passed the RN exam. I did not pass the RN exam x3 and my GPN license was about to expire.

wow, I know what you mean, because I got at least 2 sets of 2 questions that were similar-- and I answered the same. I passed 1st time with 75Q.

I think that kaplan really helped me think that way--- so when I looked at the answer, I didn't know what the thing was but I knew that the pt that I would see first are resp patients and so on.

I'm sorry about your job, but now with your LPN you will find a job, and still continue to study.

have you tried kaplan??

To KizzyKatLove: I have started Suzanne's plan about a week ago. I 'll never give up. I've worked too long and too hard to stop now. I may be down, but definitely not out! Thanks for your encouragement!

Moved this post to the NCLEX Discussion Forum. One of the great resources for NCLEX candidates is the NCSBN's NCLEX Candidate Bulletin, which goes over various aspects of the test and its scoring.

The Candidate Bulletin includes a section that covers repeat/similar items. The short version is that there are several reasons why an item might be repeated. It doesn't mean that you missed it the first time.
