I see many people posting their GPAs. I know this sounds ridiculous, but how would I figure that out? I have a Bach. of Science with a 2.99 GPA but then I have these pre-reqs and a few other classes that are part of the RN program that I have taken or will take (I am not in the RN program but am taking classes at the CC). For instance, this summer I took Ethics, Human Development, and Nutrition, and I got all As. So do my grades that I am earning now factor INTO my 2.99 or will the decision committee be looking at my GPA for courses that are pre-reqs?
Also, I hear some people use ADN (Associates Degree in Nursing) and ASN (Associate of Science in Nursing) used interchangeably? Is that correct, are they basically the same thing?
Thanks!

Used to be able to figure out GPAs off the top of my head, but as it has been awhile.... Basically a GPA is what it says, an average of your grades. Take your grades (translate letter grades into numbers, such as an A into a 4.0), then find the average by dividing the total sum by the number of classes. One can easily tell if one is doing the thing correctly by taking a recent transcript and doing the math. If your answer matches the GPA listed, you are doing the math correctly.
If the your school bases admission on your GPA of only pre-nursing sequence classes, follow the above but only count the required classes. Should the department go by your overall grade, just average all your grades.
Yes, ADN and ASN, and even AAS (Associate in Applied Science) are all two year programs, but (again, IIRC) the difference is that Associate Science degrees have stronger general education requirements and are transferable to a university, while AAS degrees have a lower general education requirement to better allow students to concentrate on their major. However normally AAS degrees are not transferable to university. AAS degrees are normally geared towards persons seeking to only spend two years in college then enter the workforce (sound familar? *LOL*), but not considering returning for a BS degree in the future.nce (A.A.S.): one-third of the work shall be in the liberal arts and sciences

If you are going to a differant school than where you had a 2.99 then it starts over. For instance I had a 3.0 at one school, then I transfered to another school, the class transfered but the gpa did not. For nursing they go by institutional gpa so if you are getting nothing but As at your school now your gpa will be 4.0. I hope I answered that for you.
Sorry - I should have clarified: I know HOW to figure out GPA. But I was not sure on how to figure out GPA from multiple schools and which GPA would be used. Thank you!

Which classes to include varies depending on which school is looking at your pile of transcripts and what they're looking for. Some will ignore grades from other schools, some will only look at your science GPA or your pre-req GPA, some may just add them all together, and any of those may decide to drop all your + and - grades down to the next lowest full letter grade (so that all your shiny A-'s become dull, boring B's). It's best to ask the admissions people at the school(s) you'll be applying to how they calculate GPAs from multiple schools.

To figure out your GPA, just use your nursing pre-req classes. Dont count the other classes because thats your cumulative gpa.
At my school you have to have a science pre req of 2.0 and a cumunulative gpa of 2.0 they both count. My school I got the classes from the other schools but the GPA does not transfer. Now for nursing they have gpa for pre reqs and science. For instance the school may not transfer your gpa but the nursing will give you a gpa for sciences and another for all pre-reqs. EXP: I have a science gpa of 2.5 and a pre-req of 2.9 they firgure every pre-req you ever take anywhere, that is just for the nursing. Simple way to do it is write out the pre reqs for your nursing, any that you have ever taken and that will be your pre req gpa, and do the same just for your sciences. I hope I didn't confuse you. Best of luck to you
