My job offered me a 10000 sign-on bonus for 2 years contract. I was just curious to know if I can ask for only 1 year and get half the amount?
Thank you.

That is totally up to your hospital, but if there were other options acceptable to them, they probably would have offered it.
Is this a job you're already working, or did you just get this job?

For sure. Tell them I said it's OK.
Kidding. Ask the people offering the bonus.

How would we know that? We are not the powers that be, making the offer.

Safer bet would be to ask them to just throw in an extra $416.67 every month that you don't quit. ??
On a serious note, if you do take that money just put it away in case you need to get out.
ETA: By the way, if you work full-time (12 hr x 3 per week x 4 weeks/mo), the $10K comes out to an extra ~ $2.89/hr. Just to put it into perspective. Sounds like a very good deal for them, since training a (likely new grad) nurse to replace you costs a billion dollars.

Ha ha! Yes, these bonuses sound good in large chunks, but doing the math makes them look much less attractive.
