UK nurses going to the US

I am due to have a job interview for a hospital in the US that my agency sourced for me.Assuming I get the job then my agency will apply for a EB3 visa and Green Card for me and I wondered what other people's experiences are in the same situation. Whether you've been through it or are going through it now.I would love to hear tips, helpful hints and also everything that went wrong. It would help to know what to watch for.

Thanks everyone.

I went to Scotland Yard and used their fingerprint card and there was no problem. I didn't have to get one from US.That's what was used for the background check and there was no problem.

please when dod you qualify in the UK?

Are u an adult nurse

did you have enough hours for beads and maternity?

Hi , I qualified in 2003 , one of the last Project 2000 cohorts and I am a RN-adult and I had no problem with my hours for Paediatrics and maternity as we had an 18 months foundation before specialising for the last 18 months .Did you do your nursing after project 2000? If you did then you can get your transcript assessed by CGFNS and see where you stand.

Thank you for ur reply. I qualified in 2015.

I am thinking of trying Florida or Texas or NY BON cos i heqrd they allow UK trained Nurses who shorts of hours to register.

I did the NCLEX on my own. I used Saunders and uWorld. uWorld in particular was very good for me. What stage are you at right now?

which state board did you apply to for nclex if you don't mind me asking? ? with the agencies, how can they send you to any state if your license if valid for the state you applied for nclex through only? or am I missing something there ? X

I registered with Texas board of nursing as they were one of the BONs that don't require a SSN,there are others. The agencies can send you to another state because if you have a license you can endorse it to another state.California and New York have their own process which might take a little longer.

Did texas BON find deficiencies in your transcripts? I have an SSN so would like to register with CA but I know I will be short in Obs! If there are boards which are easier for UK nurses to qualify for I would just go for them instead? ? X

I did Project 2000 so I did didactic and clinical hours in obstetrics, mental health and paediatrics. I wasn’t deficient in any areas. You could try another BON and work elsewhere then later meet the Californian requirements.

How did you guys fulfill the ob/gyn and peds requirements? I would love to know your experience :)))

Hey Nurses,

I have just received my ATT from NY BON and it feels so good

This is how i got the approval. I have always wanted to move to the States ever since i qualified few years ago but i never got round to doing anything about it. But late last year, i finally decided to start the process. I looked for an agency who was willing to employ me and help me with the process.

My application was sent directly by the agency to NYBON early November with 1f form , my university sent my transcripts with a 2F form directly to NY and NMC sent the verification of license to NY via online. This is a faster process compare to using CGFNS. There was a bit of a delay with my application because NMC has a new process in place but NY wasn't aware of this so NY kept asking for a paper copy of the verification. I had to keep calling NYBON to relate this new process to them. Eventually NY accepted the verification via online. Few weeks laters i received my approval letter via email.

I am glad i did not give up because a lot of people in this forum stated that UK trained nurses do not have the required hours to qualify for Nclex. Although i did a 2 week mental health placement but never did a placement in Gynea, labour or peads ward. But my transcript did include 75 hours of peads and OBs cos i did few weeks placement in ANE and i had the opportunity to care for children and pregnant women.

Hi, nurse Deeva. I am a nursing student in Australia and have always worried that I will never be able to get a chance to sit the NCLEX exam. I will be having an 80 hours ED placement later this year which I am very excited about. I'm am even more excited after reading your experience. Do you know what other states are also more flexible in ob/gyn an peds experience/ clinical hours? I'm hoping to gain some experience in Austalia before I move anywhere else. Thank you for sharing your experience again :))

Luckily for you, you are still a student. So try and gain work experience in OBGyn, Peads, mental health and Adult in order to meet the requirement to sit NCLEX.

I heard Florida and Oregon are flexible

All the best
