This is big for me. I see a lot of concussions pas through and the docs are (understandably) reluctant to order a CT every time.
The most eye opening part of being a school nurse is how common concussions are.
Not only common, but how debilitating they can be. I have had some LD that have to go on home-bound services due to a concussion. Some of the most severe concussions I have dealt with have been non-sport related.
Cheerleading and Field Hockey are our top 2.
Then football.
The rest vary.

This is very interesting information. Thanks for sharing.
Cheerleading is brutal as far as concussions go (at least in my experience).
And the worst head injuries/concussions I have seen as a school nurse have been non-athletic related as well.

Thank you for sharing! I fight tooth and nail to make my teachers and parents understand how serious concussions can be. I can say from personal experience, I had more serious injury from cheer ( a concussion and nearly bit my tongue off) than I ever did in track or softball.
