Should I Stay?

Published

I started as a GI Endo nurse last week as my first full-time RN position. I transferred within the hospital system from my clinic position to endo. I had worked at the clinic for 5.5 years through my transition from LPN-RN, but I was unable to work full-time after getting my RN which is why I left.

I am really struggling with staying or looking for another position in a clinic. I don't feel like it is for me and just don't mesh well with the staff. The staff (preceptor, managers, other nurses) are offensive and inappropriate.

This position is an hour commute one way (which I am used to), and I had intentions on moving when I took the position 2 months ago. My husband and I have made the decision not to move. He recently lost both of his parents and doesn't want to leave his family any time soon (which I completely understand).

If I were to stay, I would only stay for 6 months so I could get out of orientation and be able to transfer. If I were to leave, I would want to give a notice and (hopefully) leave on a good note with the facility as it is a large company.

Specializes in school nurse.

Are you sure that one week is long enough in the position to make this decision, whichever way you decide...?
