Should I quit my job???

Thought I would get the voice of experience on this...

..........so I can take phlebotomy and/or lab assisting (they teach you phleb in that) during NS at a different college?

Right now I work in healthcare but totally behind the scenes. My job is of little value as far as gaining experience in nursing. I would like to get into a hospital but in some capacity other than a CNA for first semester (I am not cert yet). I think even working in the hospital may help ease my hospital fears!

It would mean a pay cut and obviously more school work....the only way would be for me to quit my job for first semester. I also will have to take patho first semester, it is a co-req that I didn't manage to get rid of before school.:o I also have been battling some depression so I am not even considering doing ALL of it, school and work, IF I take the phleb or lab assist classes. A plus too would be in the hospital I could work shifts that jive more with my husbands. I have enough $ saved and enough in Fed Stafford to not work semester 1.

What would you do and do you think phleb and/or lab assiting would be of value during the nursing program and after? I am thinking lab asissting only because if nursing doesn't work out for me, lab science has always interested me so I may go to that and since they teach phleb in there, I thought may as well! Oh...also......do you think I could get a job either as a lab assistant or phleb right out of school? I would need to work soon after....

Thank you for the feedback!!:)

Well i think you have kind of answered your own question, but just want a little reinforcement?

You said you have the ablity to quit your job and still be ok financially working shifts and part-time. You wrote you have the ambition to do the extra work it might take.

Maybe its time for a change. If you go on to nursing or lab assisting you will already have your foot in the door at a hospital, so going on to find another job or staying at the facility you are talking about working for now after school wont be a problem. Any more evidence?

Do what your heart is telling you to do. You have to analyze your own situation and decide where and what your goals and priorities are. You wont be the only one who changes career fields after the fact.

Go for what you want.
