shot opinion?

I feel like that in most instances, the vastus lateralis is a good site to give an injection. Anyone agree/disagree? Is this a good site even for elderly/very thin patients requiring an IM injection?

The bum bum is still the best site to give IM shots. VL is the best in the little ones. In my experience, most patients report that VL shots hurt like heck as compared to the bum bum shots.

I'm currently in school, and we were taught never to use the dorsogluteal because of its proximity to the sciatic nerve. Our options for IM injections are deltoid, VL, and VG.

We just covered parenteral this semester and this is what we were taught. Deltoid for elderly might be a problem, unless you could use a smaller needle at a slight angle for the injection. Hope this helps :)

Wow, we're trained to never give shots in the dorso-gluteal. Ventro, yes... dorso, no. Pretty much going out of practice.

I give a lot of IM shots in the vastus lateralis muscle given that the patient is healthy with good muscle bulk and tone. Anyone else do this? Some nurses on the floor where I work were surprised when I told them I use this site. They said they use the ventrogluteal muscle for most IM injections.

i use vg or quads.
