Sherri Taylor's online workshop

Published

Has anyone completed her ONLINE WORKSHOP? Looking for feedback! I understand she's not an Excelsior grad, but I'm over that at this point.. and what's another $150! I'm taking some of the online ones through Excelsior right now. Those are ok, but I feel as if they could give us more for what we pay.

Please let me know if anyone has experience with this!!

LOLOL....Girl I told you this is driving me nutts! I'm beginning to get confused on simple stuff now: I'm stuck on the "rationales" part of the careplan. Someone responded to me on EPN, and told me that's the "easy" part. Yeah, I think I'll do the Sherri thing this afternoon. I also need to send at least one care plan in to DR. A or whomever to get some constructive criticism. Question: where are y'all getting the PCS scenarios from to send in the careplans? From the study guide? books? or just making something up?

I'm just using the study guide and my Excelsior workbook/DVD I bought used. The planning phase is easy for me. I'm still struggling a little bit with my evaluation portion. You can also submit documentation to Dr. A. I think I am struggling with documentation/evaluation because I HATE making up the fake assessment data to plug in. Does that make sense? I just took the documentation online conference through Excelsior and it helped. Dr A. kept telling me 'you're writing too much!' Finally, Joanne who is running the documentation conference set me straight. Stick to the critical elements and what's required for documentation! I'm too used to playing the CYA game at work. It's still a little tricky with how/where/why they want documented for IV's, but I just submitted my last assignment and think I have it figured out!

Here is a link to some more practice care plans. http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dd3vnpzc_294f7wpxghj I'm hoping to have a template put together by the end of today to submit care plans and documentation that I will be more than happy to share.

Erin, when is your test date? I have been wondering about Sheri's online workshop as well. So far I have CPNE interactive Study Workbook, CPNE preparation DVD, CPNE workshop booklet, the excelsior college cards, both of Rob's dvd's, and have watched all the youtube videos out there. I'm thinking about a worshop, either Sheri's online or live, or the one in Pa. I haven't got a date yet, so I have no idea about timing all of this out. Any thoughts?

Oh, and thanks Lunah and Erin for the website resources! AWESOME! :D

I test March 12th! Do any of the Excelsior DVD's you have do the lab videos?

Edit: oops! I just realized you have the same DVD as me and there is only one Excelsior DVD!

Yeah, the workshop thing I just couldn't make happen for me! My husband and I went back and forth on it. Tina is on maternity leave. The PA one just isn't for me. I know I sound like a baby, but I seriously have issues with staying focused for 16 hours. Yes, even if there's $2000 on the line! Chancellor's is incredibly expensive and by the time I could attend Lynn's it's too close to my CPNE date. I scrambled and looked into going to Excelsior's and wasted hours looking up travel arrangements. By the time I decided I could go to the NJ/TN they were sold out. Next option was Savannah, GA and I found decent travel plans, but by the time I got husband's approval, prices skyrocketed! When prices came back down, Savannah had sold out. I had always thought it would be best to plan my workshop around my date. Now I know, schedule a workshop when you register for the exam!

In the mean time, I am taking Excelsior's online documentation and skills conference. Documentation I have found beneficial, just wish there was more to it! It's basically 4 practice scenarios that you turn in for feedback. Skills online.....eh, I'm not too sure yet. The faculty is great, but it all seems like stuff I already know.

I have Rob's videos as well. I don't respect his delivery of the material. I don't like the "That's the Excelsior way" comments. Don't get me wrong, GREAT GUY and I love what he's trying to do. I have found his videos helpful in some ways, but am hesistant to use his 'way' 100%.

In all honesty, I admit I am a snob when it comes to educational tools! So, I'll let you all know when I find something "erin approved"! Haha!

for me personally..i would never take a cpne workshop from a person that has not completed the cpne...i mean how can you teach something to someone that you yourself have never done....take lynns or tina workshop....

well, i did it, i paid for it and i think it's wonderful! cpne or not, it's obvious to me that sherry has gone through cpne preparation through instructing others. her pass rates are the same as lynn and tina's. i can't get to lynn or tina's, so it is what it is and this has turned out to be a lovely option!

fyi, "erin approved!" i love her delivery. she does a great job of breaking everything down!

Erin, did you attend the workshop or do it online?

I attended it and love it, it was a lot of fun. Do you have the generic rational for your care plans, I polished mine so it is sounding pretty good.

I'm taking online! I live in Michigan! Not that attending a workshop is convenient to begin with, but I couldn't make it work for me!

I should have signed up when I first started to prepare! The ONLY downside is that it's subscription based and costs $147/month. Since I test in a month, I already emailed them and said "cut me off after March 7th!." Shortly after I received an email saying I wouldn't be charged anymore.

The videos are great! It's the most professional step by step resource I have seen yet! They are long and take a while to download - even with high speed, but well worth the wait!

She even has a section where she goes over all the different drainage tubes. Something that I was worried about!

Her knowledge of the critical elements are right on and she has a great understanding of how the weekend goes. Everything matches with what Excelsior wants us to know.

I think this is the route I am going to go also, I definitely need to know more about the different drainage tubes. I keep dreaming that I am going to be cursed with all the difficult stuff and I am just getting started and going bananas already:eek: lol.

I asked the nursing faculty yesterday on my phone conference about how I should deal with the unknown tubes/drainage systems. First of all, she said check the policy and procedure manual. Then she backtracked and said to ask the primary RN to show me or at least walk me through it. If that didn't work, then go to the policy and procedure manual.

I'm done worrying about that stuff. I decided there's too many things that I can/do know... plus, I heard they haven't assigned irrigation and drainage in a year. :)
