I've always been a fan of Maya Angelou, and this is one of my favorite quotes:
"As a nurse, we have the opportunity to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of our patients, their families and ourselves. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel." -Maya Angelou (Rest In Peace)
Let us all never forget the power that we have to make a difference in the lives of the people we encounter.

That quote is beautiful and she was right. I remember reading "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" in HS not because it was assigned reading but because I wanted to personally read it and after finishing the book, I realized what a remarkable woman she was. She was so wise and even though she is no longer with us, her words will continue to live on.

Was she a nurse?

No, she was a remarkably prolific poet and will be dearly missed. But according to multiple sources, her mother was a nurse.
Thanks for clarifying. I didn't think she was a nurse either, but the first person quote confused me. I even checked several sources and could find not mention if nursing.
I think she had a more colorful background.
However, that quote would/could make one think that she was speaking as one.
