Shasta College ADN wait list 2015

Hi Ayejay.

I see your post is from last September so I'm not sure if you'll see my comment.

Anyway, I'm also on the wait list at Shasta CC. In June 2015, I received my first wait list #, which was 162. Then in February 2016, my updated wl# was 94. I'm hoping to get in by the end of 2017 if I don't get into the JC near me (I'm living in the Petaluma, which is about a 3.5 hours southwest of Redding).

Have you started the program yet? If not, what is your current wl#? If so, how do you like the program so far?!

No not yet. I applied in Spring 2015. My waitlist number was updated to 52 in June 2016. I started at 162, so I think I'll be in by next Fall (2017). Although the waitlist is somewhat long, Shasta is a great back up option, especially if you are not in the top tier of your classes or if you are a bad test taker (TEAS exam). Most nursing schools in CA just take the cream of the crop each application period with no wait list option. Unfortunately, my GPA, TEAS exam score, and volunteer hours (which I maxed) were not enough to get into this style of application evaluation. Therefore, I turned to schools with a wait list and/or lottery system. In the 2 years I've been waiting, I earned my BS in business management, knowing these skills can be transferred to any field, and applied twice (once each year) to my local JC (which has a lottery system). On the second time around at my local JC, I got in as an alternate!! However, if I didn't get in, I would have Shasta as my back up. I encourage anyone considering Shasta to apply and get on the wait list. It doesn't hurt to apply! If you want to be a nurse bad enough, waiting 2 - 2.5 years is nothing.

I'm on the same boat as you are. Although I got Bs in my pre requisites, my cumulative GPA is what's bringing me down. I am in CSUEB doing Health Science in the mean time, hopefully by the time I finish my degree, it's my turn to start the program. Have you taken the teas yet? Also, any update from Shasta? I applied last Fall 2016 and will be updated on my WL# this feb (according to the person I spoke with). Btw, congrats on getting a bachelors!

Hi Kbear. I just completed my first semester at my local JC so I declined Shasta's invitation for fall '17. Did you get into Shasta?

@cherrydoodle48 thank you for responding, and no not yet. I applied Fall 2016, hoping to get in Fall '18. If you ended up going to Shasta, how long would you have waited before getting in? I'm #1 on the alt list at my local cc but they have completed the nursing class. I'm hoping someone backs out so I can get in for this coming Fall.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you! That's how I got into my local cc (as an alternate because someone dropped).To answer your question, if I would have gone to shasta cc, I would have waited 2.5 years (Applied Spring '15, accepted for Fall '17).

Thank you! I actually got in at my local community college, as an alternate too! I'm so thankful bc if I didn't, I would've been waiting for Shasta maybe for 3 or more years. They just changed their policy on taking students in their program. It's now by multi criterion system, and I didn't get the best overall gpa which would prob bring me waaaay down. I was told I'll still be in the waitlist, but it wouldn't be a priority after fall 18, and I was looking to get in spring 19. @cherrydoodle48

@kbear Congratulations on getting in! That's wonderful news. I had no idea Shasta recently changed its policy. Lucky for us we both got into a program. It's getting harder and harder for pre-nursing students to get into a program :/ Good luck to you in your first semester :)
