Last sunday on my floor I heard that a pt was selling puppies from her room. When asked by the team leader to stop they were ignored. The team leader did nothing more and the saga continued.
Plus staff from other floors where coming to the room to see the puppies and a couple were bought by staff members!!!!
I have to say I was shocked and felt that this was very inappropriate and would have called the house supervisor to deal with the situation.
Interesting thread...interesting, too, that the supplier of the puppies wasn't stopped by hospital security during transport to the pt's room...after all, don't you think someone would have HEARD whining from the box or whatever container held them????? Good grief....
This reminded me of an incident that occurred one day on our psych floor while I was off duty. A pt ordered in a pizza(those pts with money are allowed to do this), threw a fit about the toppings she'd ordered--denying that the toppings that the pizza came with were those that she ordered--and proceeded to sell slices of it other pts for some crazy inflated price like $6.00/slice(original price for total pizza was $15 I think) and was getting her asking price!(These are mental pts after all).:chuckle Staff intervened, refunded the money to those who'd paid(even after they'd already eaten the slices.) Just had to shake your head at it all.

Say, that's a great idea to supplement my income!
I worked at a facility that had an employee's cat that hung out around the building. Good therapy for the residents, along with the two children of the administrator who also hung out there. One of the nurses said that he was allergic to cats and was wondering what his legal rights were about being forced to be exposed to the cat.
