self review anyone?

is there anyone here who just had self review when they took the exam? im planning to take the nclex and still processing my application in cA brn. i want to take review classes but my work makes it impossible coz i work in a nursing home where im staying too. i want to enroll online but its too expensive and i dont have credit card and even my co-worker doesnt have one(i think our employer have one but its too impossible to ask for his credit card). so my only option is to read book. i have exam cram 2nd edition and mosby 6th edition. are those books enough for me to review? i seet hat the most popular book is kaplan but i dont have it.

any tips? especially those working while having their self review when they took the exam? i really want to get out form this nursing home because we're just like prison here. i cannot even go out to process my fingerprint for the application. i can only use the computer here after 10:30 pm so online review is a bit impossible too. i dont know but i feel really down with my situation right now. so passing the nclex will definitely help me to get out from here. even thou ive been thinking to escape here. i really need that license to improve my life. any advice?please

my brother passed it with only using the saunders cd and my co worker passed too by using the exam cram cd. they said practicing a mock exam is better since it's next to impossible that you can remember every bit on those very thick books. i guess they're right as i relied too much on the books but seldom tried the simulated exam...

but i guess it varies from person to person but i can say it's possible...

i'm planning to use their style of studying while i still keep on trying to get back the momentum of religiously studying again...i hope it works for me...

Hi kristoffer,

I do self review with Saunder's Comprehensive 4th ed/CD, and I added the Prioritization,Delegation,Assignment by LaCharity.I am an international graduate of 7 years.I took my first exam 2007, but failed.MY performance says near passing. So the 2nd time,I did review everything. When I got my ATT,within that 3 months period, I seriously practice test on CD for 50 to 100 questions everyday. The good thing with this Saunder's CD, is you can stop and resume anytime of your practice test.I have also limited time, so doing 50 to 100 a day, is really a struggle.

I am always praying to pass the 2nd time so I can work as a nurse and not depend financially on my husband.I also cannot afford to be in a review center,to tell you, even paying my exam was so difficult that's why, every night, before I slept, I review my notes,to see to it that I retain what I study.I convinced myself that with self review, I can make it as I did passed my local board with just self review.

With your time, I am sure you can do it.It's just a matter of serious determination to succeed.

Also, one thing that will help you with your study, the mnemonics in infection control, will give you easier to remember and try to read the random facts here for an added notes.

I wish you all the luck in your pursuit of changing your status of life.I know and understand your feelings.

Just give yourself enough time to study on your own pace.

The majority of people are able to pass the exam by studying on their own. Many are successful using the Saunders Comprehensive Review, the Linda LaCharity book on Prioritization (she has since come out with a second book), and the Kaplan review book for test taking strategies. I would start with these. Good luck.
