Select Specialty Hospital- Columbus, Ohio

Do any of you have experience with this company? I was called for an interview (RN). Would this be counted as a good, solid Med-Surg experience as a new grad? I know they have vents, complex dressing changes, etc., but I don't know if it's counted as a "nursing home" type of experience.

Thanks so much,

Dani

We have one in my town, and i have a few friends that work out there, they work there pretty much for the money only, as a part time job, as the work is HARD. My one friend described it almost as army like (what ever that means) nursing. They have very difficult patients and the ratio is 4:1. But they pay very good for PRN.

In fact I have applied there for a part time only job, just one night a week, I figure I will get good vent exp out there.

I am still un decided on if I will do it or not though.

I know many of people who had worked there only one night and walked.

I do know they hire new grads though. If you have ICU or Critical Care exp you get a few more bucks an hour.

Good luck and I would be interested in hearing what you think of the one in Ohio.

there facilities are more like step down ICU, can be very complex. I have been aLPN for 8 years at Select in Johnstown, PA. The experience is great but a very hard place to work dispite the low pt ratio it is still high compared to regular ICU with 1or2 pt per nurse. you are also responsible for covering the LPN assessment and Iv meds. I have just graduated and am going to be changing my role to RN and I scared, even though I have been there for 8 years.
