Seizure IM prn meds

I am starting a new job at a group home for the DD. I was told that the policy is that when a resident has a seizure that the nurse is to wait 5 minutes and then only give the IM meds for seizure if and only if the resident is still having a seizure after 5 minutes. Is this really the correct way to do it? The MAR just says give prn for seizures.

Usually the parameter is 3 minutes. Did you check your P&P to see if you were told the correct information?

Once you get to know your patients and their patterns, you may find that some of them need a rescue at onset because they go into status. Can you talk to their epileptologist about your questions?
