Can anyone recommend any good sources for education in pain management? For nurses? Online sources preferred but open to all. Don't necessarily need educational credit. Anything from basics to in depth...

Hi NC29,

just go to Google and type in "pain website", you will find many choices for patient and student education. And the term "pain website for nurses" should give you more nurse focused info.

there is a site for Palliative Care Nurses society. They have good resources

I've found www.PainEDU.org to have various downloadable patient assessment and reassessment techniques, opioid patient education information, warning signs of aberrant behavior and how to approach it, etc. I believe they even offer a couple of free books to download as PDFs or request hard copies.

Also, I found this helpful: "Pain Management Nursing Role/Core Competency A Guide for Nurses" at

http://www.mbon.org/practice/pain_management.pdf

Lastly, if you have a Medscape account, they have great articles and e-newsletters depending on preferences you've set.

I am currently taking a pain management course. I really like our book, which is this one Amazon.com: Pain Assessment and Pharmacologic Management, 1e (Pasero, Pain Assessment and Pharmacologic Managerment) (9780323056960): Chris Pasero MS RN-BC FAAN, Margo McCaffery MS RN-BC FAAN: Books . I have been told by numerous people it is the best out there related to pain management.

This book is one of the "gold standards". Chris Pasero and Margo McCaffery are trailblazers in pain management nursing. A great organization (if you are heading toward pain management nursing), is the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (here's a link:Home). It's such a great organization! When I first started in pain management nursing, i attended a conference and they have such great resources.
