William Carey University in Mississippi began as Pearl River Boarding School in 1892, founded by W.I. Thames. After a fire in 1905, Thames founded South Mississippi College in Hattiesburg in 1906, which evolved into the current university. Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the university now operates multiple campuses, including prominent locations in Hattiesburg and Tradition, north of Biloxi. The School of Nursing focuses on delivering high-quality education rooted in Christian principles, preparing students for culturally sensitive nursing care in diverse global settings.

- Prelicensure BSN: A 6-trimester, primarily in-person program, with some online/hybrid courses available at William Carey locations.
- LPN AP Program: Includes significant in-person components for labs and clinics, with courses available in-person, online, or in a hybrid format at all three William Carey locations.
- Second Degree BSN: Offered in a flexible hybrid format, this program allows students to choose between full-time (6 trimesters, 18 months) and part-time (10 trimesters, 30 months) plans.
- Healthcare Transitions Hybrid BSN: Available in a hybrid format, combining in-person and online components, with options for full-time or part-time study.
- RN-BSN: Fully online and designed to be completed in 4 terms (12 months).
For the graduate nursing programs in education and leadership the format is built to support working nurses.
- MSN Nursing Education: Fully online, this program can be completed in 18 months on a full-time plan or 24 months on a part-time plan.
- DNP to PhD Program: Offered in a hybrid format, designed for working nurses, and can be completed in 24 months.
- PhD in Nursing Education and Administration: Also in a hybrid format, this program accommodates full-time working nurses and can be completed in 2 to 3 years, with options for full-time or part-time study.
NCLEX Pass Rate
In February, more than 60 nursing students graduated from various William Carey University campuses, including those in Hattiesburg, Tradition/Biloxi, and Baton Rouge, LA. All of these new registered nurses passed the NCLEX licensing exam on their first attempt, achieving a remarkable 100 percent pass rate.
