Minnesota State University, Mankato, has a rich history that began in 1868 as Mankato Normal School, a teacher training institution. Over the years, the institution evolved into Mankato State College in 1957 and gained university status in 1975, finally becoming Minnesota State University in 1998. Today, the university offers over 130 undergraduate programs and 85 master's and doctoral programs, including a Nursing program.

Hands-On Learning Experience
The nursing programs provide access to the Maverick Family Nursing Simulation Center. This accredited, state-of-the-art facility uses innovative technology to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world clinical settings. In the center, learners practice high-risk, low-occurrence scenarios to develop their clinical skills in a realistic and safe environment.
Additionally, students have access to the Glen Taylor Nursing Institute for Family and Society, which focuses on innovative nursing practice knowledge that influences the health and healing of families and society and provides leadership and expertise in family and society health-related issues. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to intern at the Health Commons at Pond, a free medical clinic in the Bloomington school district that offers health and wellness care for area children and families. The clinic is operated by students, faculty, and staff from the nursing program and others across the College of Allied Health and Nursing.
Mode of Learning
Minnesota State University, Mankato, offers online nursing programs designed for working professionals. The RN-BS Completion Program is flexible and individualized, ideal for licensed registered nurses with an associate degree. The Master of Science (M.S.) program is offered fully online and allows part-time or full-time study. The university also provides two Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) tracks: a three-year full-time program for BSN level graduates and a two-year part-time, fully online program designed for those with a master's degree.

Admissions at MSU
Gaining entry into the Nursing Program at Minnesota State College Manako is highly competitive, meaning that simply fulfilling the prerequisites does not ensure acceptance into the university. The process for applying to the Pre-Licensure Program is different from that of general university admission.
Accreditation
The BSN and DNP programs at Minnesota State University, Mankato, are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The master's level program at MSU Mankato does not currently hold accreditation. However, the MSU Moorhead campus MSN program is accredited by CCNE.
