Midway University, originally founded as the Kentucky Female Orphan School, began as a vision of Dr. Lewis Letig Pinkerton. Established to educate female orphans in Midway, Kentucky, it opened its doors with the support of James Ware Parrish and other community leaders, aiming to uplift women from disadvantaged backgrounds through a comprehensive liberal arts education. Over the years, the university has expanded its mission, now offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs to both men and women while remaining grounded in its Christian affiliations and values. A major milestone came in 2016 when Midway became fully coeducational, reflecting its ongoing commitment to inclusivity and adaptability in education.
