Central Connecticut State University (Central) is a cornerstone of higher education in Connecticut, established in 1849 and recognized as the state's oldest publicly funded university. Over the years, the university evolved, offering four-year degrees in 1933 and later transitioning into Central Connecticut State College in 1959 before finally adopting its current name in 1983. As part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, Central is renowned for its comprehensive academic offerings. These include five academic schools, one of which is the College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Hands-on Learning Experience
Nursing students have the opportunity to engage in patient care scenarios in the XR Lab, individually or in small groups, as part of their program. The curriculum focuses on creating a safe learning environment, enhancing patient-centered care skills, fostering interdisciplinary teamwork, utilizing technology for decision-making, and applying simulation best practices across the curriculum.
The DNAP program at Central Connecticut State University has a collaboration with Yale New Haven Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia and Integrated Anesthesia Associates' Nurse Anesthesia Program in Hartford. The DNAP offers a practice-based doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia. This program allows critical care nurses to become certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) or, for those with a master's degree, to obtain a doctoral degree.
Mode of Learning
- The traditional BSN program requires 125 credits to complete and is an in-person program.
- The RN-BSN Program is a full- or part-time program that is also 100% online.
- The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is a 15-month, second-degree hybrid program.
- The Nursing Hospice and Palliative Care MSN Program starts every August, requires 35 credits that can be completed part-time and is offered 100% online.
- The DNAP Program has two start times: it begins in May for the Entry-Level Cohort and in August for the Advanced Specialization Cohort.
Pass Rates
Graduates of the Central BSN program consistently achieve high first-time NCLEX-RN pass rates, with 100% in 2018, a slight dip to 92% in 2019, and strong recoveries to 97% in 2020 and 96% in 2021.
For the DNAP National Certification Exam, the pass rate was 100% in both the 2020 and 2021 academic years.
Admissions Information
The nursing programs require all students to apply to the nursing department for admission as a nursing major. The admission cycle is once per year from mid-December to February 15th.

Central's BSN and MSN-level programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
The DNAP program of Hartford at Integrated Anesthesia Associates and the Yale New Haven Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia are both accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
